KBA now distributor for Optimus MIS

Partnership for efficient print company organisation

KBA and the Optimus Group have announced a partnership relating to worldwide sales and distribution of management information systems (MIS) from Optimus. With effect from 1st March, press manufacturer KBA is to become a distributor for Optimus solutions such as Dash, Cloud and Cloud Mobile in the regions Western Europe, Asia-Pacific and USA/Canada. Further markets are expected to follow later.

Many sheet fed offset users around the world are interested in the capabilities of an integrated MIS, which can not only manage all its different substrates and processes, but also grows together with the company and its needs. Various KBA customers are already using Optimus systems, and they have gained a good reputation for their outstanding flexibility and user-friendly implementation. “We have already worked with other partners in this field in the past, and our customers can continue to rely on our openness and flexibility if they wish to integrate existing or new KBA Rapidas into their preferred MIS solutions. But when we recently decided to offer MIS solutions as part of a closed-loop workflow with our presses, Optimus was our first choice,” says Ralf Sammeck, KBA Vice President for the sheet fed product house.

Nicola Bisset, Group Managing Director for Optimus, adds: “We are really looking forward to the cooperation with such a renowned and future-oriented company. KBA possesses a broad, global customer base – also in countries in which we are not present to date. Our partnership is a fantastic opportunity to reach further potential customers for our MIS solutions. KBA is similar to Optimus in the way it places the customer’s needs in the foreground, and is well known for its excellent service. The cooperation with KBA will enable both sides to further strengthen their brand image and reputation.”

Optimus launch v19.202.000 with its new suite of icons

Each time we see a computer, a washing machine, a cell phone, or whatever device that needs a system for us to interact with, we see icons. Icons are a predominant and essential element in any user interface, and as such, their design is important. Optimus is very pleased to announce the launch of v19.202.000 with a whole new suite of icons.

The objectives

When given the brief for reviewing the “iconography” within Optimus there were two specific objectives:

1. Consistency of the icons throughout every single module

2. Clear, simple and easily to identify icons to assist training

The challenge

Effective design is to nail the essential characteristics of the object, reduce the idea only to its basics, so the icon is immediately recognized. In other words, it must be… ”iconic”

home 1home 2

What makes a home… “home”? is it the door? the porch? or the triangular shaped roof? Would you symbolize “home” with any other object besides a house?

camera 1camera2

What makes a film camera recognizable? The lens? The matte box? The film load? To simplify the objects to their essential forms and shapes is subjective.

This was one of the most important issues we had to think about in our designing of the new icons. Designing an icon for the print function was certainly much easier than designing an icon to depict a material stock item.

The results

Icon design is a compromise between clarity, aesthetics, and most importantly usability. It’s this usability that inspired us use colours throughout our icon design. We have already found this not only helps with the clear identification of the object, and its status it also helps with the menu icons to depict actions too.

The feedback we have received in the training room has been hugely positive so please discuss the new icons with your Business Manager before upgrading to v19.202.000 and we hope you enjoy the new look of Optimus.

The Optimus Christmas Party

Well folks for our Christmas and 30th Year birthday celebrations combined we decided to do something “a little different” this year!

For those of you who have no idea what “Donutting” is….. let me enlighten you.

It’s a bunch of erm….. I would say grown-ups but the evidence suggests it’s more appropriate to call them big kids….. who willingly climb into an inflatable rubber ring and race each other down an outdoor ski slope in the middle of an English winter!

It was freezing cold with a little rain which apparently helped with the speed one could hurtle down the slope and of course there was a competition held for the fastest teams. Well done to the winning teams!

It was brilliant fun and afterwards we had use of the cabin where there was food, cake, drinks, a little music and most importantly heating!!! The pictorial and video evidence is below.

May the whole team at Optimus wish our customers, prospects, partners and business associates a wonderful Christmas and a fabulous New Year.
